Active Release Techniques (ART) is a soft tissue release therapy (meaning that it can be applied to muscles, tendons, ligaments and nerves) that was created by P. Michael Leahy. Basically, the idea behind this approach is to apply a vectored acupressure (pressure to the depth of the tissue to be affected and following its fibers) while shortening to lengthening the structure (this last part can be done actively by the patient). This applied functional anatomy technique has an amazing impact on breaking up adhesions and eliminating pain and inflammation. Also, it restores blood flow and nerve condivity as well as increasing mobility and flexibility.
Nutritional Services includes nutritional assessment and possible recommendations of retailed nutritional supplementation and Chinese herbal medicine.
Motor Points are non-acupuncture points that have been found to equate to the neuromuscular junction (NMJ) or where the nerve innervates the muscle. By needling a motor point, the muscle that was treated often gets a twitch response and becomes reconnected to the central nervous system (CNS). This muscle balancing technique can help against both muscle atrophy (weakness) and spasm (rigidity). Matt Callison helped pioneer this technique.
Huatoujiaji points are also non-acupuncture meridian local points that are located off the spine and can have an affect dermatomaly in the treatment of muscle weakness, nerve pain and numbness, especially benefiting the upper and lower extremity (tingling, weakness and nerve pain in the arms or legs).
